#004 - Horror Movies

This time, Trevor has disappeared, so Greg and Cat sit down to talk about horror movies. Audio quality is a bit rough on this one, and Greg rambles as usual. Opening theme by Amon26 (http://amon26.bandcamp.com/)

Update: Hiatus

I'm going to disappear for two weeks to try to detox from technology for a bit. Schedules are strict with the new school year starting so it'll be a while before episode four or five see the light of day. Just keep watching, and I'll return with a new episode. Thanks for listening!

Update: Where we are

Hello internet! It's been a while since the last episode and will be a while until the next, so I wanted to update what we've been up to.

Hosting
I created this site so that people could follow us more easily, and because we've run into a hosting issue. Due to the low budget of this show, I can't afford to continue hosting new episodes on Soundcloud, and will instead be uploading all future episodes to another service.

Sound Issues
The fourth issue has some horrible sound problems which are entirely my fault. We were recording in a rain shelter during a storm, and I thought the microphone was plugged in properly. However I messed up, and accidentally recorded 95% of the episode on the laptop's internal microphone.

Vacations and Birthdays
Cat's been on vacation for a bit, so we haven't had a chance to record a fifth episode yet. I had a party I had to manage, so we've been a little waylaid in terms of free time as it is. Hence no fourth episode yet.

So now what?
Well, I'll be honest, I doubt an episode every week is feasable, but I think we can probably manage every three weeks. I'll aim for two weeks, but three seems much more likely. My apologies for misleading anyone, and if you were really looking forward to more frequent episodes, I can only thank you for enjoying our show so much. I hope you stick around for future episodes.

I'll be trying to get out the fourth episode by the end of the next week. Thanks for tuning in!

#003 - Recent Films

We're back, talking about some recent films. More gameshows, more rants, and even more censorship!

Featuring new music opening by the talented Amon26! (amon26.bandcamp.com/)

01:17 - Introducing the films that we are going to individually be talking about in this episode.
02:28 - Cat kicks off the discussion with her thoughts on Monsters University.
10:08 - The Mickey Mouse Mandate and talking about more recent Disney affairs. Oh, and more talking about The Pirates of the Caribbean (Why does this series keep coming up?).
16:20 - Greg gives his thoughts on This Is The End.
33:22 - Trevor gushes over Pacific Rim.
44:41 - Trevor makes a racism! Can /you/ guess what he said?
48:20 - Conclusions!

Closing music is Malicious Fingers (ocremix.org/remix/OCR01592/) by SnappleMan of OverClocked ReMix (ocremix.org)

#002 - Historical Fiction

More errors, more crows, more side-tracked tangents! This week we talk about historical fiction, or fictional history, or both!

Ending music is Never Found by Ronin Narasu. soundcloud.com/ronin-narasu/never-found

[Index]
00:19 - Defining "Historical Fiction" and "Period Pieces".
06:12 - Are Westerns considered Historical Fiction?
12:46 - Historical Fantasy and the difference between Historical Fiction and Historical Fantasy.
20:36 - A brief chat about the show notes of the previous episode (Riveting).
29:28 - Talking about the setting of Conan.
35:30 - Favourite Historical Fiction work.

[Error Log]
03:43 - Neither of these series were produced by the BBC, and I (Greg) could not remember or find any which were. However, if you know of any, please let us know! ERROR LEVEL: NEGLIGIBLE
09:30 - Westerns were at their high point in the 60's and 70's, not the 70's and 80's. ERROR LEVEL: NEGLIGIBLE
27:10 - 1602 features Queen Elizabeth, not Queen Victoria. ERROR LEVEL: NEGLIGIBLE
30:24 - The Hyborian Age is roughly 20,000 BC to 9,500 BC, not 40,000 BC. ERROR LEVEL: IRRITATING (Would be ERROR LEVEL: NEGLIGIBLE if not for the repetition)
33:44 - The Conan works were originally written in the 20's. As I (Greg) was getting into the topic of Marvel Comics, I was thinking of the Conan Comics they put out in the 70's (which I totally recommend). ERROR LEVEL: MISLEADING.

[Fun Facts]
8:24 - Fun Fact: A Fistful of Dollars is an unofficial remake of Akira Kurosawa's film Yojimbo.

[Historical Naval Shows:]
(*) Hornblower, a series of British television dramas (7 total) produced from 1998 to 2003, following the captain Horatio Hornblower during the Napoleonic Wars.
(*) Sharpe, another series of British television dramas that follow a soldier named Richard Sharpe (played by Sean Bean) during the Napoleonic Wars.

#001 - Introductions

Our three hosts introduce themselves, talk about some of their favorite media, and make horrible mistakes! "This is where it all began..."

EPISODE INDEX:
01:40 - Introducing the three core members of the Open Field podcast. Trevor says um excessively, Cat-the-not-cat laughs a lot, Greg actually describes himself well.
04:24 - Definitive works for each of us.
11:12 - Greg just up and ruins /everything/.
16:20 - A fairly lengthy chat about Master and Commander: Far Side of the World
20:46 - It seems like we were about to talk about Kiera Knightly movies but then it turned into a discussion of historical fantasy films and games, Pirates of the Caribbean and Assassin's Creed in specific.
24:22 - Conclusion, we coincidentally come across the (now) name of the podcast and then everything gets meta. Smooooth Jazz. Closing music is Twenty at BrownStone by Amon26, off his album Gravity Mako. (amon26.bandcamp.com/album/gravity-mako)

ERROR LOG:
03:43 - Antonyms are words that mean the opposite of eachother. What we were thinking of was homonyms. [ERROR LEVEL: NEGLIGIBLE]
05:33 - Phantasmagoria was released 2 years after Myst. [ERROR LEVEL: NEGLIGIBLE]
16:57 - Master and Commander was /not/ Ridley Scott, yet we continue talking as if he was for the rest of the conversation. I have a feeling this is going to make someone somewhere very angry. [ERROR LEVEL: BUT THAT'S WRONG]
